BIO
My name is Yenick M. Gonzalez. My parents were born and raised in the Dominican Republic and migrated to the United States in their teens. I am a first-generation-born American but identify myself as a true Dominicana or “Dominican York”. I am the first in my family to graduate from college and as a single mom to four daughters, my poetry helps give them and all silent women a voice for the future. I am currently earning my Master's in Creative Writing and will be graduating in May 2022.
Watching for Diamonds
I need to be forced out.
Of this little room, that
I have uncomfortably filled.
I need to be exploded.
So that I can touch
That far corner of undiscovered
Spackled cosmic space of me.
I need to be set ablaze.
The sparks of flint lay
They want to be embered,
Waiting for the choke,
Waiting for the blindness,
Watching for the Diamonds.
