Sucia
I dream of a place
Where I can lay in the grass
In the pouring rain
Watch it
rain heavy on me
I want grass stains on my jeans
And dirt on my shoes
Worn out, sucia
Dirty like, what we thought was clean
And what we thought full, was broken
Dirty like dragging your body, spirit, and mind
Through twenty-five years of nothingness
You don’t feel a thing
You look for your happiest memories
But it is all a fog
Life is a blur
Dirty like the attic you store all your baggage in
Dirty like the memories you don’t wish to relive
Dirty, sucia
Like the cameras you took pictures in black and white
Sucia like,
Sucia like the girl mom says you are
Sucia like the guilt she makes it so hard to swallow
Like a pill that can’t fit in its bottle
Sucia like the names she calls you
Sucia like the ungrateful child she says you are
Sucia like a blur
Sucia like yelling but no one choosing to hear
Sucia like the grass stain on your jeans
The rain on your pants
Sucia like
You’ve been running in those shoes for
Twenty-five years
