BIO
Karen Yvonne Hall is a queer afrodominican writer, painter, videographer, scent installation artist, opera singer and composer who is native to New York City. Throughout these mediums she focuses on world building to envision and manifest a better future. Her writing focuses on the magic that is the beauty in everyday life. Moments of feeling deep connection and being seen. Contrasting this with the crudeness of her experiences growing up. Including the characters who have made it so wildly colorful. The contrast of the two, ultimately is symbolic of the universal laws that positive and negative need each other to exist.
The Road Where I Became A Woman is Made Up of Screams
“My daughter, she's always so stressed
she probably thinks she…
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyeee"
My mom shouts
after not believing me
three days before my ninth birthday
I got my first period
In my rational mind
I think -I'm ok
A sorceress once put her hands on my womb
Screamed and jolted back
I'm ok -now
I’ve been in this body for so long
my childhood ended
with the birth of my sister
I became- dad
I am ok- now
It is truly shocking whenever I see
An eight year old
A seven year old
Squealing
like a child
Honestly,
I am ok- now
I’ve reunited with
my inner child
know how to have fun
something I lost -too young
Caring for children reminds me
I was not
so grown
I look forward to aging
Searching for
my own scream
